Principal Corrosion Engineer / Materials Scientist

Warren has over 30 years experience in corrosion engineering and materials technology, in both private and public sector industries covering marine, infrastructure, industrial, civil and building structures.

He has been involved with the condition assessment, remedial strategy development and maintenance management of various steel and reinforced concrete structures and buildings. He has also provided durability and assessment planning services to major infrastructure and new build projects.

Warren has experience in the design, specification, commissioning and monitoring of cathodic protection systems and has researched and published on condition assessment of structures, concrete durability, corrosion monitoring, cathodic protection, performance of concrete repair materials and coatings, corrosion sensors and microbiologically influenced corrosion.

He is an accredited lecturer for the Australasian Corrosion Association for the delivery of training courses, namely “Corrosion & Protection of Reinforced Concrete” and “Corrosion & Electrochemical Protection of Reinforced Concrete Structures”.

Warren is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Institute for Frontier Materials at Deakin University, a Visiting Adjunct Associate Professor in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Curtin University (and Lecturer of the “Concrete Corrosion Unit” within the MSc In Corrosion Engineering), an Industry Lead with the Australian Centre for Infrastructure Durability (ACID) and a Conjoint Fellow in the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment at the University of Newcastle.

He is also a Member of the Concrete Institute Durability Committee and Task Group Chair for the Durability Performance Testing Recommended Practice, Task Group Member for the Durability Planning, Construction Phase Durability, Durability Modelling and Exposure Classifications Recommended Practice Documents as well as a Member of the fib (the International Federation for Structural Concrete) Working Parties on “Durability Testing of New Structures”, “In Service Corrosion Tests” and “Corrosion Propagation”.

Shane Linton BE (Civil) (Hons), MIEAust CPEng NER RPEQ
Lead Structural Engineer

Shane leads our Newcastle Office and has over 20 years’ of experience in the consulting fields of structural, civil, forensic and remedial engineering.

He has been involved in the assessment, design, and delivery for a variety of existing and new industrial, marine, mining and civil structures, and has managed multi-disciplinary teams to bring together a range of professionals required to provide holistic solutions.

Shane’s work in forensic and remedial engineering includes investigation, diagnostic testing and desktop structural assessment with closed-form solutions and Finite Element Analysis, to enable the delivery of considered and pragmatic remedial repair and strengthening strategies to clients and asset owners.

He also has competences in the durability assessment and planning of structures and buildings to increase confidence of design life achievement at optimised and predictable maintenance costs.

Shane has published on various matters including the condition survey and assessment of structures, structural auditing and risk assessment of assets, structural strengthening methods and maintenance engineering design and implementation. Chloride durability and future maintenance engineering on a marine structure earned him joint-receipt of the Best Paper Award at the Concrete 2019 Conference for the Concrete Institute of Australia.

Brett Eliasson BE (Civil) (Hons), MIEAust CPEng NER, RPEQ
Principal Structural Engineer

Brett has over 25 years of experience in the consulting fields of Structural, Civil and Remedial Engineering coupled with Materials Technology.

Brett has been responsible for ensuring the successful outcome of a wide range of investigation, refurbishment and remedial works. Having been involved with both new and existing structures he has developed a strong awareness of problems that can occur in the design and construction processes. He uses this knowledge to feedback and add value to new projects as well as identify faults in existing structures.

Throughout his career Brett has gained experience of various methods of project procurement and has acted as Project Manager on projects where the firm has been appointed as prime agent. He recognises the importance of producing high quality reports and contract documentation for projects and is committed to continually improving standards in these areas. Brett has been responsible for the conceptual and preliminary structural design, and the performance and supervision of the detailed structural design of various types of civil and building structures.

Associates

Vinsi staff have been enthusiastic, both Australia wide and internationally, for many years at:
• conferences (with the organisation of and also the presentation of technical papers);
• within industry associations (providing representation at various levels); and
• professional institutes.

This peer involvement has allowed the development of a network of Associates. The Vinsi Associates Network enhance our current skill base with additional expertise in related fields including:- concrete technology, metals and alloys durability, failure investigations, reliability centred maintenance, plastics durability, structural health monitoring, specialist chemical analysis, specialist testing and applied R&D.

As such Vinsi are able to team with other principled individuals and small firms to offer further, more wide-ranging, experienced competences and skills.
